WELCOME TO BEACH LODGE

Tradition brings us together.
Friendship keeps us coming back.

Beach Lodge is a friendly Masonic lodge in the heart of Southampton. Our members come from a variety of trades, professions and backgrounds, bringing different experiences to a shared interest in Freemasonry.

We value the time we spend together, the opportunity to learn, and the chance to support good causes. Alongside lodge meetings, our social life brings family, friends and guests into the picture too.

Freemasonry brings people together through friendship, shared values and charitable service.

Lodge meetings combine longstanding traditions with opportunities for personal development. Members learn through ceremonies and symbolism, support one another, and contribute to the wider community.

Do I need to know a Freemason to enquire?

You can contact us directly. Tell us a little about yourself and what interests you, and we can discuss the next steps together.

Who can join?

Beach Lodge is a men’s lodge. Freemasonry under the United Grand Lodge of England welcomes men aged 18 and over from different backgrounds and faiths, with a belief in a Supreme Being. Contact us to discuss membership. UGLE explains how to join, including links to Freemasonry for women.

What about time and costs?

Our regular meeting pattern is below. The Secretary can explain current subscriptions, dining charges and any other costs, so you can consider them alongside your family and work commitments.

What happens after I get in touch?

We can arrange an initial conversation, answer your questions and explain the membership process. An enquiry is simply a chance to find out more.

VALUES TO LIVE BY

Shared values. Everyday actions.

UGLE identifies four values at the heart of Freemasonry.

Integrity

Be honest, keep your word and take responsibility for your actions.

Friendship

Build lasting connections with people who share your values.

Respect

Make room for different beliefs, backgrounds and perspectives.

Service

Offer your time, skills and support to help others.

THE WIDER PICTURE

An old tradition.
A purpose for today.

Freemasonry draws on the traditions of medieval stonemasons. Today, its lodges bring people together to build friendships, develop character and contribute to society.

UGLE describes Freemasonry as a secular social and charitable organisation with no political or religious affiliation. Its ceremonies encourage tolerance, respect and a sense of responsibility to others.

OUR HISTORY

A Southampton story,
more than a century in the making.

Named in memory of William Wither Bramston Beach, a former Provincial Grand Master, our lodge has been part of the city’s Masonic life since 1903.

An idea takes shape

Fourteen brethren met on 4 December with the idea of forming Beach Lodge. Caroline Beach welcomed the proposal to name the lodge after her late husband. By the time the petition was submitted, there were 22 founders.

1903

Our first chapter

Beach Lodge was consecrated on 3 June at the Masonic Hall, Albion Place. Sir Augustus Webster conducted the ceremony and R. W. Denness became the first Master. A banquet followed at the South Western Hotel.

1963

A banner of our own

The lodge banner, based on the Beach family crest, was dedicated on 13 November at the 545th regular meeting.

2003

One hundred years

The lodge celebrated its centenary, marking a century of meetings and fellowship in Southampton.

Today

The story continues

Our history is a starting point for the friendships, learning and charitable work still to come. New members help write the next chapter.
